Sagres

Airport transfer from Faro (optional with MegaSport) to Sagres. This beautiful village is located in the extreme southwest of Europe and integrated into the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina. Sagres is filled with magnificent historical charm and stories. A visit to the lighthouse to take in the views of the Atlantic is highly recommended. The Fortress of Sagres, located at Ponta de Sagres, is another fantastic opportunity to enjoy the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve on the first day. Fish and seafood, as well as a host of traditional cuisine options are available at a myriad of great restaurants for the first of many superb meals available on this tour.

The tour moves north in direction Lagos through Vila do Bispo. Take in the legendary atmosphere of Sagres and Saint Vincent’s Cape with 75 meter cliffs which rise from the Atlantic with dramatic views of the coast and it´s exuberant marine life.On the way visit Vila do Bispo, one of the few places in the Algarve where the wild nature, together with a rich historical-cultural patrimony, remains virtually untouched.

Start the day in Lagos, one the most historically interesting coastal town in the Algarve. The tour then moves north in direction Ria de Alvor, a typical ancient fishing village. The narrow streets of the center of Ria de Alvor has many traditional seafood restaurants.. Follow along the coast towards the city of Portimão passing through Ferragudo Village, located across the river estuary of Rio Arade, one of the new hot spots in the Algarve. Continue along the coast towards Armacao de Pera, through Salgados Lagoon, a bird watcher's paradise and flora filled habitat filled before ending the day in Albufeira.

Leaving Faro towards fishing town of Olhão, cycling along the 60 km long Ria Formosa Natural Park passing through typical Portuguese villages eventually reaching the picturesque town of Santa Luzia where the night is spent. The evening can be spent visiting Tavira, 5 km away, with it´s wonderful mix of architecture, saltpans, enchanted beaches, mountain ranges, windmills and churches along both sides of the river Gilhão which is connected by a Roman bridge .

Vila Real St. António

Leaving from Tavira heading towards Cabanas day 7 passes through the Fort de S. João da Barra and magnificent scenery around the emblematic Cancela Velha. The next stage skirts Monte Gordo and and ends at Vila Real de Santo António on the border of Portugal and Spain. A fascinating town with centuries of tradition, Vila Real de Santo António was completely rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1755. Overnight is at Sta. Luzia (Tavira) with an option of returning by bike or by train to Tavira (the regional train is free for bicycles).
