From Scopello you will reach the archaeological site of Segesta, one of the most important and evocative archeological centre with an impressive temple breathtaking views of the sea. Segesta was a important town of the ancient Elymians (an ancient people of Trojan ancestry) and later a strategic location for during the Punic wars from 264 BC to 146 BC.

The ride inland today unveils the authentic country life of Sicily. On the way back to the coast pass by the amazing saltpans, first established by the Phoenicians, which also are frequented by majestic flamingos can admire the flamingos above it. The historical town of Trapani was founded by Elymians and later part of Roman, Vandal, Ostrogoth, Byzantine and Arab empires, during the Crusades Trapani was a critical strategic port and is now center of tuna production.

A relaxing day pedaling along the panoramic coastal road. The highlight of the day is a visit to the tiny island of Mozia, a Punic/Carthaginian archaeological site. After an informative stop at the museum on Mozia and a light cycle to Marsala, spend the night enjoying this beautiful town on the sea where the delicious liqueur “Marsala” is produced.

Selinunte

This hilly stage leads to the Archaeological sites of Cave di Cusa quarries and Selinunte, known in ancient times as Selinus when it was one of the most progressive Greek cities in Sicily. The day continues riding through the flat vineyards around Marsala then curving inland towards a softly undulating series of hills, and then down to the sea again, passing by the Cave di Cusa Archaeological site, one of the most fascinating natural workshops of the Greek period. The massive archaeological park with countless monuments surrounding Selinunte are the remains of a city that at its peak before 409 BC had a population of up to 30,000 people.

Sambuca

An amazing itinerary from the sea level to inland Sicily, filled with history and traditions includes a fun mix of easy hills and flat terrain through forests and agricultural land which eventually reaches the little town of Sambuca di Sicilia. Highlights include the beautiful landscape of the “Arancio” lake and many famous vineyards. The town of Sambuca was awarded in 2016 the “Borgo dei Borghi” for its monuments.

Corleone

Corleone was an ancient punic-sicilian centre; first developed on the hill above the village. A day filled with impressive scenery, you will pedal along countryside through the “Monte Genuardo natural reserve” and Contessa Entellina village.. Corleone is also known to be the “town of one hundred churches”, the most famous of which is the Main Church built around the year 1000. Corleone is also famous for the movie “The Godfather” by Francis Ford Coppola.

Monreale

The last day of cycling is filled with breathtaking views which follows an old railway track which leads to the entrance of the Monte Jato archaeological site and later to the lake of Piana Degli Albanesi. Along the way enjoy “cannolo”, the typical Sicilian dessert in Santa Cristina Gela. The day ends at the town of Monreale with arab origins along the slopes of Monte Caputo, 310m above sea level. In Monreale visit the Cathedral of Monreale (Duomo di Monreale) one of the greatest examples of Norman architecture, which was built in 1174 by William II of Sicily, and has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 2015.
