Catalonia - Girona & The Costa Brava

The charming Costa Brava, the city of Girona, the volcanoes of La Garrotxa ...
  1. 1 Arrival Point Girona

Arrival in Girona. Spend the day visiting the old part of this historical city, where the cathedral, the remains of walls and the Jewish quarter are very outstanding. We also recommend a stroll along the Ramblas. Accommodation in the centre.

  2. 2 Girona 45 km Sant Feliu de Guixols

The first bike tour brings you to the Mediterranean Coast, following the converted railway line called "El Carrilet". Finishing in Sant Feliu with its wonderful seaport and old monastery. Beachfront accommodation on the beach of Sant Pol. 45 km - 28 miles

  3. 3 Sant Feliu de Guíxols 31 km Calella de Palafrugell

We ride north along the coast visiting the main port town Palamós, then passing the secluded cove Platja de Castell before arriving in the picturesque Calella de Palafrugell. The last 10km section pass along the newest of the Greenways: "Ruta del Tren Petit", another great cycling path connecting Palamós and Palafrugell with its adjacent beach resorts. 31 km - 20 miles

  4. 4 Calella de Palafrugell 37 km Torroella de Montgrí

Today, riders continue north visiting the famous village of Pals with its beautifully conserved medieval centre before passing through the natural wetlands with extensive rice fields and long sandy beaches. The bike tour ends at the foot of the karstic Montgri Mountain after crossing the Ter river. 37 km - 23 miles

  5. 5 Torroella de Montgrí 61 or 70 km Banyoles

Starting the day in a flat area, the territory becomes more and more undulated. Banyoles is highly interesting for its lake - the biggest in Catalonia - and for its natural space with a large sport and leisure centre. The old part is of high interest, too. It is the capital of Pla de l'Estany region. Version a) is more direct following the course of the river Ter until reaching Colomers. Version b) starts going north around the Montgrí massif and includes a visit to the archaeological site Empuries, the most important in Catalonia consisting of a Greek and a Roman town. From here riders turn west and follow the Fluvia river towards Banyoles. 61 km - 38 miles or 70 km - 43 miles

  6. 6 Banyoles 40 km Olot

This challenging ride takes you into the volcanic area of La Garrotxa, the most important of the Iberian Peninsula. As another highlight you can visit and enjoy a lunch stop in the medieval village Santa Pau with its fortressed nucleus, lovely square and castle before cycling through the heart of the park, its beech woods, volcanoes and finally Olot. 40 km - 25 miles

  7. 7 Olot 59 km Girona

This long tour follows the converted railway line "El Carrilet", one of the first Vias Verdes (Greenways) to be opened to the public in Spain. This route takes riders through the Vall den Bas and then follows the river Brugent along the old train line "El Carrilet" to Girona. 59 km - 37 miles
