Gentle tour visiting the best of the Catalonia countryside and the charming Costa Brava.
  1. 1 Arrival Point Torroella de Montgrí

    Arrival at hotel. Orientation meeting, bike fitting (in case of bike hire), route documentation. Lodging in our charming hotel which is situated in one of the most typical countrysides of the area of l'Empordà. 

  2. 2 Torroella de Montgrí 40 km Torroella de Montgrí

    Take the opportunity to rest by the pool, or stroll to the beach. A good loop ride is also available to follow the Daro River and visit some small but very charming medieval villages such as Rupia, Foixa and Púbol. In Púbol you can visit the Gala Dalí Castle and discover the surrealist world of the prominent Catalan artist Salvador Dalí. You also visit the ruins of the Iberian village near Ullastret, where you can enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. 40 km - 25 miles

  3. 3 Torroella de Montgrí 45 km Sant Pere Pescador

    Cycle down to the seaside to enjoy the marvellous countryside of the mouth of the River Ter. Then ride around the Montgrí massif, passing the medieval village of Bellcaire dEmpordà. Then return to the seaside at  l'Escala, a lovely fishing village famous for its anchovies. Visit the historical medieval complex of St. Martí dEmpúries and the famous Ruins of Empúries, along a lovely pedestrian and cycle path along the beach. 45 km - 28 miles

  4. 4 Sant Pere Pescador 52 km Sant Pere Pescador

    Today you visit the Natural Park of l'Empordà wetlands, a protected area of great ornithological importance. The second part of the itinerary goes through Castelló dEmpúries an important medieval village. Optional visit to the area of the winery and olive oil making, at the foot of the Alberes mountains. 52 km - 32 miles

  5. 5 Sant Pere Pescador 47 km Madremanya

    This route takes you from the Alt Empordà region to the region of Baix Empordà. It goes through the most interior part of the region and the hilly areas on the western borders of the alluvial plain. We can visit typical rural villages, such as Sant Miquel de Fluvià, with its Romanesque monastery and magnificent tower and then Sant Mori and its castle. You pass Verges, a medieval village with the remains of its ancient walls, and Foixà, where we can see a magnificent panorama of the plain of the Baix Empordà. After passing the medieval villages of La Pera and Púbol you reach Monells or Madremanya, depending on the location of tonight's accommodation. 47 km - 30 miles

  6. 6 Madremanya 47 km Calella de Palafrugell

    The route takes us from Monells or Madremanya down to the coast again. It goes through a large number of medieval settlements: Cruilles, Peratallada, Ullastret... You can also visit La Bisbal dEmpordà, the region's capital, with its medieval castle and its pottery museum. Lodging in the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, which still retains its original charm, in one hotel located on the top of a hill, with a magnificent view over the settlement of Calella. 47 km - 30 miles

  7. 7 Calella de Palafrugell 37 km Torroella de Montgrí

    Return to Torroella de Montgrí through the Èmpornadet area, with a great variety of beautiful landscapes and culture. Visit the magnificent medieval historical and monumental village of Pals. Today the route runs through the interesting area of the Pals rice fields. 37 km - 23 miles

  2. Who runs IberoCycle?

    IberoCycle is run by Simon Proffitt. Born in Lancashire, England, Simon has been resident in Northern Spain since 1985. He is a keen amateur cyclist and cycle-tourist, and is well acquainted with Spain and the Spanish way of life. 

  3. What is a self-guided tour?

    IberoCycle transports luggage to the next hotel. On some stages cyclists are also transferred part of the way to avoid unnecessary climbs (details in individual route descriptions).

    Cyclists do not travel as part of a group or with a guide, although they may coincide with other cyclists on the same trip.

    Guests are transported to and from arrival / departure points, unless otherwise stated

    Our "IberoCycle On Call" service means we are always available for help or advice.

    Cyclists are provided with our own detailed Route Guide and maps for their chosen route.

    Fitter cyclists may extend stages at will.

    Guests on the Northern Spain tours normally spend two or three nights at the same hotel and thus have one or two free days. The Route Guide provides a selection of Free Day Routes of varying lengths for these days. These are of course merely suggestions, and guests are free to do what they like. 

  4. What are the arrival and departure points for the Catalonia - Coast & Countryside tour

    Clients are responsible for getting to and from the hotel in Torroella de Montgrí.

    Arrival in Torroella de Montgrí - Take the bus in Girona Bus Station; it takes 45 minutes and it costs 6€.
    Transfer service also available - see prices below. Check in at hotel is from 13.00 onwards. Please let us know if you are to arrive late.
